According to the Fullerton Police Department, the fatal reckless crash occurred at about 9:20 a.m. near the Magnolia Avenue and Flower Avenue intersection.

Three vehicles were involved. An Audi sedan and a Yamaha R6 motorcycle were allegedly racing at high speed before crashing into a Toyota minivan and damaging all three. A telephone pole was toppled over, and a gas leak was ignited after the Audi crashed into a fence and the side of a house.

The motorcyclist, 35-year-old Bryan T. of Anaheim, was ejected due to the impact. He was taken to the hospital, later succumbing to his fatal injuries. The minivan’s 74-year-old male driver and 15-year-old male passenger were sent to the hospital with minor injuries. The 32-year-old Audi driver also sustained minor wounds.

The crash killed an innocent female pedestrian, 68-year-old Antonia R. of Fullerton, walking with her husband to an Easter gathering, and hospitalized a 30-year-old cyclist with moderate injuries. Several residents were evacuated from their homes due to the gas leak.

Although authorities have not confirmed that the two were racing, they did note that speed was a factor. No arrests have been made yet, and alcohol or drugs were ruled out.

Fatal Reckless Accident Statistics

The thousands of accidents and hundreds of deaths that occur annually on American highways and roadways can largely be attributed to reckless driving. Driving with “willful disregard” for the safety of other drivers is considered reckless by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Estimating the annual death toll from reckless driving is likely to be difficult. However, between 2003 and 2007, reckless driving was estimated to have played a role in 56% of all traffic accidents, as reported by the AAA.

Annual statistics show that both intentional and negligent driving behaviors contribute significantly to the number of people killed and injured in automotive accidents in the United States. Speeding and drunk driving are two major contributors to traffic problems in the United States.
