An 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl were injured when their vehicle slammed into a light standard near downtown Riverside on Thursday, April 14, 2022.
According to the Riverside Police Department, the collision occurred around 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of Brockton Avenue and 12th Street.
According to Sgt. Emilio Angulo, the unidentified man, was driving a 2004 Honda Civic southbound on Brockton when it veered into the opposite lanes and collided with a light pole.
According to Angulo, paramedics arrived minutes later and discovered that the motorist was critically injured and his teen passenger, who had not been identified, had minor injuries.
The sergeant said it’s still unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
The victims were taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment, which was only three blocks away.

Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Single-vehicle accidents are among California’s most dangerous, but many drivers are unaware of this.
Sixty-two percent of all fatal car accidents in California involve only one vehicle, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Drivers in California, where single-vehicle accidents are all too common, need to be aware of the many contributing factors.
A single-vehicle collision can occur for a variety of reasons. It is common for a single-car accident to occur if the driver is speeding or making sharp turns on a wet or slippery road and loses control. It is possible to find debris on the road, such as a large branch or an object that fell from a truck.
An accident caused by something that is not your or another driver’s fault, like a deer jumping in front of your vehicle, will likely limit your compensation under your comprehensive insurance plan.
Riverside County Car Accident Lawyers
For many car accident victims, their injuries prevent them from returning to work or school. Negligent drivers are not exonerated from responsibility for their actions even if a victim is killed. The surviving family members of the victim can file wrongful death lawsuits against the driver who was negligent and, as a result, caused the victim’s death (or legal heirs).
This process is extremely difficult for them to go through. Depositions and trials force victims to testify about their losses in front of strangers. Dealing with the stress of a lengthy legal battle can have a negative impact on one’s mental health.
When a driver is at fault for an accident, it is critical that they be held accountable. When a high death toll is the result of negligence, accountability is essential. Filing a wrongful death claim can be draining for grieving families, but it can also bring some solace. This will benefit every driver in California.
