An on-duty police officer was allegedly rear-ended and side-swiped by a motorist allegedly driving under the influence in Santa Barbara on Friday, April 15, 2022.
The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 200 block of West Alamar Avenue.
When the driver, identified as 40-year-old Santa Barbara resident Jeremy P., collided with the officer’s vehicle, the officer was parked along the curb in their marked police vehicle.
According to the police, Patterson was driving south on West Alamar Avenue when he collided with the car.
Due to the damage caused by the collision, the officer was injured and unable to leave the vehicle.
Patterson was arrested after other officers arrived and determined that he was under the influence of alcohol.
Patterson is currently serving a sentence for driving while intoxicated. The amount of his bail was set at $100,000.
Patterson was not hurt in the accident, but he was arrested for DUI causing injury, driving with a suspended license, and driving a vehicle without an interlock device in the Santa Barbara County Jail.
The officer should be able to return to duty after a full recovery.
