Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics

Motorcycle accidents are unfortunate events that almost always put the biker in more danger than the other drivers involved. Motorcycle riders are more vulnerable to collisions and are more likely than others to suffer catastrophic and fatal injuries.

In 2019, 5,014 motorcyclists were killed in collisions, according to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the United States Department of Transportation. Motorcycle deaths had declined since the early 1980s, but they began to climb again in 1998 and remained stable until 2008.

Motorcyclists are 16 times more likely than passengers in enclosed automobiles to be injured or killed in a car collision, so this figure is unsurprising.

Helmets can help protect you from serious head injuries. Helmets are 37% effective in preventing motorcycle accidents. The remainder of their bodies, however, may still be vulnerable.

Motorcycle accidents are frequently caused by distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, inclement weather, wrong-way driving, and failure to obey traffic laws.
