Fatal Pedestrian Accident Statistics
There is a greater risk of injury or death for pedestrians and motorcycle riders than for other road users. Because they are not adequately protected in the event of an accident, this is the reason.
Tragically, the number of accidents involving pedestrians has risen dramatically. Between 2007 and 2016, the number of pedestrian deaths in the US increased by 27%, while all other types of traffic-related deaths decreased by 14%.
Pedestrian deaths in the United States totaled 5,977 in 2017. One person dies every 88 minutes in the United States. Hospital emergency rooms treated approximately 137,000 non-fatal pedestrian injuries in 2017.
Compared to other states, California has the highest rate of pedestrian deaths and serious injuries. Last year, 893 people died, and 14,000 were injured in California car accidents that involved pedestrians.
Driver carelessness, excessive speed, and failure to yield to pedestrians are the most common causes of pedestrian accidents. Legal counsel is critical when faced with a situation like this.
