Fatal Motorcycle Accident Statistics
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 11% of all road accidents in the United States are caused by motorcycles. Eighty-two thousand motorcyclists were injured, and 4,985 died in 2018.
Given that motorcycle riders are 16 times more likely to be injured or killed in a car accident than passengers in enclosed vehicles, this is not a surprising number.
Major concussions can be prevented with the use of helmets. The effectiveness of motorcycle helmets in preventing fatalities is 37%. Despite this, the rest of their bodies may still be at risk.
Unfortunately, Californians who ride motorcycles face a high risk of injury or death. The number of people who own and ride motorcycles is among the highest in the country in California. There are more than 800,000 registered motorcycles. At least 15,527 people were injured, and 541 were killed in motorcycle accidents on California’s roads in 2017.
Distracted driving, speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, inclement weather, wrong-way driving, and failure to obey traffic laws are all common causes of motorcycle accidents.
