Four people were injured after a pickup driver armed with a firearm swerved through central Fresno at high speed before colliding with another vehicle on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
The crash occurred on a Wednesday evening at Shields and Millbrook avenues.
After officers attempted to pull him over near Maple and McKinley avenues for having tinted windows, a violation of the state vehicle code, Lt. Sky Leibee said the driver sped away from members of the MAGEC gang unit.
According to Leibee, due to the nature of the traffic stop, those officers did not pursue the pickup. However, the pickup was followed by a department helicopter.
The driver collided with the other vehicle at Shields and Millbrook avenues after speeding through a Target parking lot at First Street and Shields avenues.
Both the driver and the passenger fled the pickup but were apprehended quickly. They were rushed to the hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.
Two men in the second vehicle were treated on the spot but refused to be taken to the hospital.
According to Leibee, members of the MAGEC team will decide what charges the two men in the pickup will face, but gun possession and being wanted on a felony warrant are among the possibilities.
