Fatal Traffic Crash Statistics

Every sixty seconds, an automobile accident occurs somewhere in the United States. This is unsurprising given the millions of cars that cross the country’s highways every day.

When so many vehicles share the same highways, traffic congestion, gridlock, and (most crucially) car accidents resulting in death and catastrophic injury are unavoidable.

Orange County is part of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area in Southern California. It was the third-most populous county in 2010, with 3,010,232 people. Its population exceeds that of 21 other states in the country.

Orange County had 31,004 accidents in 2017, resulting in 21,646 injuries and 188 deaths. If you keep track, that equates to 84 accidents per day in the county.

These tragedies are exacerbated because the vast majority of them could have been avoided. Drunk driving, distracted driving, speeding, and disregard for traffic laws are all factors that contribute to car accidents.

Distracted driving is responsible for approximately 80% of all traffic accidents.
