One person was killed, and two others suffered minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash in Cholame, San Luis Obispo County, on Tuesday evening, May 30, 2023.
According to the California Highway Patrol, at about 7:14 p.m., a 37-year-old Hanford resident identified as Kayleigh P. was driving eastbound on Highway 46 in a Ford Explorer approaching Highway 41.
Authorities stated that the Ford had one passenger, a 41-year-old woman identified as Emma P. Meanwhile, Jesse M., a 31-year-old Gilroy resident, was driving a Toyota Rav4 westbound on Highway 46, approaching the intersection from the opposite direction.
The driver of the Ford SUV reportedly turned directly into the path of the Toyota for unexplained reasons, and the speeds of both vehicles at the time of the collision are unknown.
The Toyota driver was airlifted to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, where he succumbed to his injuries, while the Ford Explorer driver and her passenger sustained minor injuries.
Alcohol impairment is not suspected to be the cause of the collision, according to the CHP, and no further information has been disclosed.
The investigation into the collision continues.
