[06-03-2023] Kern County, CA – Two Juveniles Hospitalized After Pursuit Led to Rollover Crash in Bakersfield

Two juveniles were hospitalized after a pursuit led to a rollover crash in Bakersfield on early Saturday morning, June 3, 2023.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers attempted to stop a stolen Hyundai with four teenage boys inside the 1500 block of Union Avenue at approximately 2:07 a.m.

Authorities stated that the vehicle’s failure to yield prompted an officer’s pursuit. The pursuit ended when the car failed to navigate a turn onto westbound Highway 58 from Union Avenue, causing it to leave the roadway and roll down the highway embankment.

The three juveniles fled across the highway, while the fourth occupant, identified as a 16-year-old boy, was pinned in the stolen vehicle and extricated with the assistance of the Bakersfield City Fire Department and medical aid before being transported to a hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police reported that a 14-year-old boy who fled the vehicle was brought to the hospital for injuries sustained in the collision and was expected to recover.

The BPD said the two other 14-year-old boys were medically cleared and brought into Kern County Juvenile Hall for auto theft-related charges.

Further information on the collision has yet to be released.
