[06-04-2021] Brevard County, FLA - Customer Attacked With a Shovel in Melbourne WalmartA customer was struck in the face with a shovel after one man attempted to threaten customers with it in a Melbourne Walmart store on Thursday morning, June 4, 2022.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. at a Walmart off Eau Galle Boulevard in Melbourne.

A 26-year-old man identified as Craig W. was acting disorderly after entering a local Walmart.

The suspect shoved a shopping cart filled with a pallet of supplies pushed by a Walmart employee. The suspect then struck the Walmart employee’s shoulder and hand before walking further into the store.

According to reports, by the time officers arrived at the scene, the suspect had already taken out a shovel. The suspect was throwing the shovel above his head and speaking strangely; a manager called the police to report his concerns for the safety of his employees and clients.

While the drugstore manager phoned 911, Williams allegedly used the shovel to smash a plastic divider and hit a customer in the face.

In response to an attempt by the manager to confront him, Williams swung the shovel at him. Williams continued toward the garden section, banging the shovel against every sign he came across as he went.

A kitchen knife was found tucked in a sheath inside Williams’ pants when police arrived at Walmart and arrested him. No prior personal conflict between Williams and anyone in the store was found to be a factor in his actions, according to police.

According to Florida Today, the suspect was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, breach of peace, disorderly behavior, battery, and carrying a hidden weapon.
