[06-08-2023] Los Angeles County, CA – One Killed, Six Injured Following Multi-Vehicle Wrong-Way Crash in Long Beach

One person was killed while six others were injured following a multi-vehicle wrong-way crash in Long Beach on Thursday evening, June 8, 2023.

Officers arrived at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Junipero Avenue at roughly 7:19 p.m. on reports of a multi-vehicle crash, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Authorities stated that the 56-year-old male driver of a 2024 Lexus NX250 heading westbound on PCH near Junipero Avenue entered the eastbound lanes of traffic and collided with three other vehicles, a Dodge Challenger, a Toyota RAV4 and a Jeep Compass,

The driver, who was the only SUV occupant, was confirmed dead at the scene despite efforts by LBFD members to save his life.

Officials said three other patients were treated at the scene, and three men from the other vehicles were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At this point, it is unclear what led the SUV’s driver to drift into the wrong lane or whether speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the collision.

The investigation into the collision continues.
