[06-11-2022] Los Angeles County, CA – Nine People Injured in Car Crash in Westlake

Police say nine people were injured after a pickup truck driver jumped a curb, sending the vehicle crashing onto a sidewalk in Westlake on Saturday, June 11, 2022.

The crash occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Alvarado Street and Wilshire Boulevard.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the driver of a black 2001 Ford F-150 was driving westbound on Wilshire Boulevard when he lost control and veered off the road, crashing into several street vendor stands and pedestrians.

The driver initially told police that he thought someone was pointing a gun at him.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the truck and jumped onto the sidewalk.

However, the Los Angeles Police Department later stated that no firearm was ever seen.

Multiple people were hit, according to initial reports. Firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene and treated the victims immediately.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the driver, passenger, and all pedestrians hit suffered minor injuries.

The driver, passenger, one male pedestrian, three female pedestrians, a female 8-year-old child, and a male 8-year-old child were all taken to local hospitals for precautionary reasons, according to the LAPD.

Two adults, one male and one female declined any further medical treatment.

Central Traffic Sgt. Robert Leary reported that no major injuries were sustained; only minor bumps and bruises were reported.

According to the police, the driver was not intoxicated and was not arrested.

The crash remains under investigation.
