Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

One of the most frightening things that can happen to you is an accident caused by another driver’s carelessness. Things will only get worse if the other driver does not stop and accept responsibility for the collision.

The number of hit-and-run accidents is sadly high. In the United States, 2,049 people were killed in hit-and-runs in 2016. Every year, the United States receives over 680,000 reports of hit-and-runs. Every week in the United States, a pedestrian is struck and killed by a car.

Pedestrians have no recourse when a negligent driver causes an accident.

To a large extent, the reason why someone flees the scene of an accident is a matter of personal preference. More vulnerable people have a greater chance of being in an automobile accident. It’s more likely that someone who has been drinking will flee the scene of an accident instead of taking responsibility for what they’ve done.
