Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics
Getting into an accident because of another driver’s negligence is one of the most terrifying experiences a person can have. Things will only get worse if the other driver refuses to take responsibility for the collision.
Sadly, hit-and-runs happen far too frequently. In the United States, 2,049 people died in hit-and-run accidents in 2016. According to a recent study, over 680,000 hit-and-runs are reported each year in the United States. In the United States, one pedestrian is killed by a car every week.
Pedestrians may not be able to react immediately in the event of an accident caused by a negligent driver.
The reason why someone flees the scene of an accident is subjective to a large extent. A car accident is more likely to occur if a person is intoxicated or inexperienced behind the wheel of their vehicle. Drivers under the influence will run from an accident site rather than take responsibility for their actions.
