An elderly woman died following a fatal collision that pushed her vehicle into a canal west of Modesto on Tuesday evening, June 14, 2022.
The crash occurred just before 8:00 p.m. on Highway 132.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Ming Hsu, the woman, who has not been identified but is believed to be in her 80s, was driving a red Kia south on Gates Road and stopped at a stop sign on Highway 132.
When she entered the intersection, she was struck by a gray Kia traveling west on 132 without a stop sign.
The red Kia was pushed southwest by the impact. It veered off the road and into a canal that runs alongside Gates and Paradise Road.
According to Hsu, the red Kia was completely submerged in the canal. As emergency personnel arrived on the scene, a passerby assisted the woman out of the vehicle.
CPR was performed on the woman at the scene then she was taken to a hospital. She was later pronounced dead shortly after being taken to the hospital.
The gray Kia’s driver, a 25-year-old Modesto resident, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
