[06-18-2022] San Diego County, CA - One Man Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Crash in OceansideAuthorities said a man was struck and killed in Oceanside early Saturday morning, June 18, 2022.

Officers from the Oceanside Police Department were dispatched at 1:28 a.m. to State Route 76 just west of Douglas Drive.

According to initial reports, a motorist was struck and killed while exiting his vehicle on westbound SR-76.

When officers arrived, they discovered a man lying in the middle of the road.

The man, whose name had not been released, was pronounced dead on the spot.

According to preliminary investigation, the man had pulled over on the north shoulder of the highway for an unknown reason.

According to police witness statements, the next time the man was seen, he was lying on the road.

When a driver saw the man lying in the middle of the road, he attempted to avoid him but ended up hitting him. After that, the driver pulled over and dialed 911.

This collision is believed to have been caused by alcohol or speed, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.
