Authorities reported that a 50-year-old man was seriously injured when an SUV struck him as he crossed a street in the Chollas Creek neighborhood early on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.
The crash occurred around 12:20 a.m. in the 3600 block of 54th Street.
According to San Diego police Officer John Buttle, the man attempted to cross from the west to the east sidewalk without using a crosswalk.
A 33-year-old driver hit him in a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer while it was moving south on 54th Street’s No. 2 lane.
According to Buttle, the pedestrian ran in front of the vehicle, causing a collision that left him seriously injured.
The pedestrian, who was unidentified by police, sustained rib fractures, a laceration to the liver, a fractured right femur, and injuries to the right knee. They are regarded as grave injuries that could result in death.
Alcohol was found to be unrelated, and no additional injuries were reported.
The police have not yet disclosed additional information about the collision.
