[06-28-2022] Los Angeles County, CA - 20-Year-Old Man Killed in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Canoga ParkA 20-year-old man identified as Nelson C. was killed after a pickup truck driver struck him before fleeing the scene of the collision in Canoga Park early Tuesday morning, June 28, 2022.

The crash occurred just before 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of De Soto Avenue and Vanowen Street.

A black Dodge Ram 1500 truck crashed into a Lexus sedan. The pickup driver was reportedly traveling at least 80 mph.

The driver of the hit-and-run collision sent the sedan flying into a nearby telephone pole and left a trail of wreckage along the street. The driver is now being sought by the police.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the Dodge driver was moving quickly and may have run a red light before hitting the Lexus.

The Lexus driver was killed in the collision and passed away on the spot.

When they saw the crash, nearby residents came out of their apartments to investigate and try to assist the driver.

LAPD traffic investigators are looking for the pickup’s driver after he fled the scene and abandoned his vehicle.

Investigators believe the pickup truck’s driver is a salesperson after discovering trinkets and bicycles there.

A third driver who was in another vehicle at the time of the collision was at least one of the witnesses.

That driver was moving in the same direction as the man who died, side-by-side with them as the light went from red to green.

The crash remains under investigation.
