Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics

The protection offered to drivers of automobiles is not the same for riders of motorcycles. They are identical to cars in terms of speed and driving conditions, but they don’t provide the same level of protection.

Around 11% of all traffic collisions in the US are motorcycle-related, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. There were 4,985 motorcycle-related fatalities and 82,000 motorcycle-related injuries in 2018.

A motorcycle rider is 16 times more likely to be injured or killed in a car accident than a passenger in an enclosed vehicle.

Unfortunately, California is not a very safe state for motorcycle riders. With over 800,000 registered motorcycles, California has the most legally owned motorcycles in the country. In 2017, 16,505 motorcycle accidents in California resulted in at least 15,527 injuries and 541 fatalities.

Due to poor visibility, some motorists may find it difficult to see motorcycles even during the day. The best way to catch the attention of other drivers on the road is to wear reflective clothing.

Even if this doesn’t fit some people’s standards of style, staying safe on the road is more important than making a fashion statement.
