[07-01-2026] Shasta County, CA – Motorcyclist Critically Injured in DUI Crash on Highway 273 in Redding

A motorcyclist was critically injured after being struck by an SUV in a suspected DUI crash on Highway 273 in Redding on Wednesday morning, July 1, 2026.

According to the Redding Police Department, the collision occurred around 9:40 a.m. on State Route 273 near Kenyon Road. A Dignity Health ambulance crew witnessed the crash and reported the incident.

Authorities said a 23-year-old man was riding a motorcycle southbound on Highway 273 when a Lexus SUV turned into his path. The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the vehicle and collided with the SUV, ejecting him from the motorcycle.

The ambulance crew provided immediate medical assistance before transporting the rider to Mercy Medical Center. Police said the motorcyclist suffered critical injuries but is expected to survive.

Investigators identified the SUV driver as 66-year-old Shyla B. of Redding. Police said she showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and prescription medications and was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI.

The Redding Police Department continues to investigate the crash.
