Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics

California has a shockingly high rate of fatalities due to single-vehicle accidents. Whenever only one vehicle is involved in an accident, only that vehicle is affected. Possible causes include veering off the road or colliding with a stationary object. Many factors contribute to these accidents, including intoxicated or drowsy driving, poor visibility, and adverse weather.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that in California, a single vehicle accident accounts for 62% of all traffic fatalities. Drivers in California must constantly be on the lookout for the many hazards that could divert their attention.

Multiple factors can contribute to a single-car accident. When driving at high speeds or making sharp turns, accidents and runaways are more likely to happen on wet roads. There could be an obstruction on the road, such as a fallen tree limb or a piece of truck cargo.

In the case of a single-vehicle accident, your ability to recover damages may be severely limited by the coverage plan of your insurance policy even if the other driver’s negligence played a role.
