[07-13-2023] 1 Person Killed Following Pedestrian vs. Big Rig Truck Collision in OaklandA big rig struck and killed a pedestrian in Oakland on Thursday morning, July 13, 2023.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Interstate 880, north of the southbound off-ramp at 23rd Avenue, around 3:39 a.m.

The highway’s southbound lanes were closed for around 20 minutes after the big rig struck the pedestrian. Pending an investigation, it remains uncertain what events led to the collision.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity is being withheld until notification of next of kin.

No information was released regarding the truck driver’s identity.
