[07-13-2025] Alameda County, CA – Elderly Woman Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle at Fruitvale Avenue and East 27th Street in Oakland

A 76-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a pickup truck in the Patten neighborhood of Oakland on Sunday morning, July 13, 2025.

According to the Oakland Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Fruitvale Avenue and East 27th Street.

Authorities said the woman was walking in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a Toyota Tacoma turning westbound onto East 27th Street from northbound Fruitvale Avenue. She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

The driver fled the scene in the Toyota Tacoma but was located a few hours later and arrested. Police said he is a 40-year-old Oakland resident.

Investigators stated that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The suspect is being held at Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, hit-and-run causing death or injury, and DUI.

The identity of the victim has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
