According to the authorities, a 35-year-old motorist was killed and two young girls injured when the SUV crashed on Interstate 8 in eastern San Diego on Friday, July 15, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash transpired at about 8:30 a.m. on Interstate 8 west through Alpine.
The Lakeside woman was driving west through Alpine with her two young children, ages 3 and 9, when she, for some reason, lost control of the Chevrolet Tahoe.
After swerving into an unpaved center median west of Tavern Road, the car flipped, tumbled down an embankment and finally came to rest on the eastbound side of the freeway.
According to CHP public affairs officer Travis Garrow, the unrestrained driver was ejected from the vehicle and passed away at the collision scene. Her identity was withheld until her family was informed.
Paramedics transported the children to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego for treatment of moderately serious injuries while they were in the back seat of the SUV, with the younger one buckled in a car seat and the other wearing a seat belt, the spokesman said.
The cause of the collision was being looked into.
Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Statistics
Despite the fact that many drivers are unaware of it, single-vehicle collisions are among the most dangerous car accidents in California.
In California, single-vehicle accidents makeup 62% of all fatal auto accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Drivers need to be aware of the various factors because single-vehicle accidents are so common in California.
There are many different things that can cause a single-vehicle collision. When a driver veers off the road at high speeds or makes sudden turns on a slick, wet road, the result is a run-off-the-road collision. There may be debris on the road, such as a large branch or something that fell from a truck.
If a single-car accident occurs that wasn’t your fault or the fault of another driver, like a deer jumped in front of your car, your comprehensive coverage plan will probably limit your recovery.
San Diego County Car Accident Lawyers
Due to their injuries, a lot of car accident victims are unable to go back to work or school. A negligent driver is still accountable even if a victim dies. Victim’s heirs may bring a wrongful death claim against the negligent driver who brought about their death (or legal heirs).
For them, experiencing their losses and grief again is painful. In depositions and trials, victims must testify about their losses in front of strangers. A case may take months or even years to resolve, which can have a serious negative impact on one’s mental health.
It is essential to hold a negligent driver accountable if they cause an accident. Accountability is crucial when negligence results in an unnecessarily high death toll.
