A 48-year-old bicyclist identified as Jerry H. was killed in a fatal DUI hit-and-run crash in Riverside on Saturday night, July 16, 2022.
The crash occurred around 10:10 p.m. on Indiana Avenue, just west of La Sierra Avenue.
According to Riverside police Sgt. Ryan Taack, he allegedly injured Hodges.
He claimed that when Hodges started riding across the four-lane highway from south to north, the suspect was driving a 2001 Honda Accord eastbound on Indiana.
Taack reported that the Honda struck the bicyclist at what appeared to be a high rate of speed.
The driver fled the scene after the collision, and witnesses pursued him.
Within minutes, paramedics arrived at the scene and found Hodges in critical condition.
After being taken to Riverside Community Hospital, the victim passed away a little under an hour later.
According to the sergeant, the witnesses who were with Cacho dialed 911 and told dispatchers where they last saw the Honda.
A half-hour later, patrol officers located the suspect, who was unharmed, and took him into custody without a struggle.
Jose C. of Corona was detained and lodged on Saturday in the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run with fatalities, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated with injuries.
Cacho was able to pay his bail and was let out of custody on Sunday night.
