[07-16-2022] San Diego County, CA - Two People Injured in Plane Crash at Intersection in San MarcosTwo people were injured after a car was struck by a small plane that had to make an emergency landing in the middle of a busy intersection in San Marcos on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

According to Lt. Ryan Wisniewski of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. in San Marcos at the intersection of Santa Fe Road and Melrose Drive.

According to authorities, two passengers were on board the four-seater aircraft when it took off from Montgomery Airfield and was bound for Fullerton.

The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing at Palomar Airport after losing power but was unable to make it to the runway.

Battalion Chief David Pender of the San Marcos Fire Department stated that the pilot did an amazing job landing on Rancho Santa Fe. However, he was unable to maintain altitude long enough to get to Palomar.

Only minor injuries were sustained as a result of the incident, which allowed for the safe evacuation of the two passengers inside the plane and the passengers inside the car.

The plane just barely missed the nearby residences and structures.

The FAA, NTSB, and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department are still investigating the crash.

Local authorities do not suspect that alcohol or drugs were used.
