[07-17-2023] Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck on Highway 101A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a pickup truck in Ventura on Monday evening, July 17, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident on southbound Highway 101 in the Solimar Beach area around 9:15 p.m.

A driver of a Nissan Pathfinder that had run out of gas was initially reported to CHP. He was stopped on the highway’s right shoulder between Ventura and La Conchita. A second caller then reported a pedestrian utilizing a walker in the slow pace lane. Eventually, a third caller reported that a pickup vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian.

The scene contained an intact walker and pieces of another. In cooperation with the police, the pickup truck driver stopped at the scene.

The victim was described as being in his 60s or 70s. There were no additional details about the identities of the people involved in the accident.

Whether the Nissan stopped on the shoulder or blocked a traffic lane is being investigated. As well as if the man killed was the one who initially reported running out of gas.

No arrests have been made yet as the investigation into the crash continues.
