A Jeep Wrangler in Irvine struck and killed a female pedestrian on Friday night, July 21, 2023.
The Irvine Police Department responded to the accident at Irvine Boulevard and Marketplace intersection by 7:45 p.m.
The pedestrian was walking north on Marketplace in the crosswalk when it was struck by a black Jeep Wrangler traveling westbound on Irvine Boulevard toward Marketplace. Paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene while the driver remained and cooperated with police.
The victim was identified as 87-year-old Maria S., while the vehicle’s driver was an adult female. The authorities have not yet released other details about the crash.
There was no evidence of alcohol or drug use by the driver. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact authorities.
