According to the Modesto police, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in one dead and several people injured involving a suspected drunk driver that triggered it all in Ceres Friday night, July 22, 2022.
According to the Modesto police, the multi-vehicle collision occurred at around 10:15 p.m.at East Whitmore Avenue and Morgan Road. When emergency personnel arrived, they discovered the crash had caused numerous injuries.
According to Modesto police Lt. Mike Hammond, a car was approaching the intersection but did not stop for a group of vehicles that were stopped at a red light. The car was rear-ended by another car, which caused both of them to crash into two other stationary cars at the intersection.
According to Hammond, a woman was killed in one of the vehicles. According to him, three additional adults were hurt and taken to nearby hospitals. According to a report by the Modesto Fire Department, two of the wounds required immediate medical attention. One of the vehicles also contained an 18-month-old baby, who, according to Hammond, was unharmed.
A 25-year-old man was detained on suspicion of drunk driving after it was claimed that he was operating the vehicle that started the chain reaction. He is accused of DUI and manslaughter.
Hammond stated that there was no information on the suspect’s identity or the status of the other injured parties.
According to Modesto Fire, the crash was deemed a mass casualty incident, and Modesto Police are still looking into it.
