Reckless Driving Accident Statistics
The lives of other people are needlessly endangered by aggressive or careless drivers behind the wheel. It is unacceptable for innocent people to suffer from reckless driving. Drivers who act in this manner should be held liable for the harm and deaths they cause.
In the United States, aggressive driving is a major contributor to traffic accidents, road rage, and a significant number of fatal highway incidents each year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines aggressive driving as when “a person engages in a pattern of moving traffic violations to endanger other persons or property.”
Aggressive driving is difficult to measure, but a 2009 study by the American Automobile Association found that from 2003 to 2007, it contributed to 56 percent of fatal accidents. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatal Accident Reporting System, excessive speed is the most frequent factor.
In California, reckless driving is considered a serious traffic violation or an extreme driving crime. It’s common to interchange the terms reckless, careless, and improper driving. Whatever you call it, it significantly increases the likelihood of serious auto accidents.
The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that 3,623 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in California in 2016—an increase of over 1,000 (2,720) from 2010. 1,059 people died as a result of drunk driving, while 1,056 people died as a result of speeding.
Los Angeles County Car Accident Lawyers
Legal negligence is used in the majority of car accident cases. However, in a reckless driving accident, your California reckless driving accident lawyer will work to establish intentional behavior or “negligence per se” in order to show that the other driver was at fault. Intentional behavior, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, is voluntary and carries a higher risk of certain consequences.
Since reckless driving is against the California Vehicle Code and negligence per se involves breaking the law, an injured pedestrian, passenger, or other road user may be able to prove negligence per se liability. In either case, having a strong claim necessitates the training and expertise of an aggressive California reckless driving accident attorney.
Arash Law wants nothing more than for drivers to avoid collisions because we have personally witnessed the harm that they cause. Instead, we assist those who negligent drivers have hit in obtaining compensation for their injuries or the loss of a loved one.
