According to the California Highway Patrol, one person was severely injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision in the area of Santa Fe Tuesday, July 26, 2022.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 6:00 p.m. in the area of Santa Fe and Olive.
Officers say that a man was arrested after he crashed head-on into a vehicle while driving under the influence.
Upon the arrival of nearby units, witnesses reportedly informed them that a Mustang had collided with a minivan.
A man in his 40s was operating the Mustang southbound on Santa Fe, and a man in his 50s was operating the minivan in the opposite direction.
According to police, the Mustang struck the minivan head-on after driving into its path. Following the collision, the van turned over and caught fire.
Seeing the collision from a distance, a Good Samaritan was able to rescue the driver from the burning car. The Mustang driver was attempting to flee the scene on foot, the Good Samaritan added, according to CHP.
CHP officers quickly apprehended the driver at the scene, where he was examined and determined to be impaired by alcohol.
The minivan driver was seriously hurt but is expected to survive, according to the police.
The collision is being looked into.
