Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision Statistics

When three or more vehicles are involved in a collision, it is referred to as a “multi-vehicle collision.” These accidents frequently result from “chain-reaction” crashes, in which one car collides with another, possibly sending it hurtling toward other vehicles on the road.

Especially when another vehicle is involved, car accidents can be traumatizing and change people’s lives. Many people are unaware of how dangerous or easily they can result in serious and fatal car accidents because cars are so common.

Each year, thousands of drivers and passengers are killed across the nation, and millions of people are injured. According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) of the US Department of Transportation, 36,560 people died in automobile accidents in 2018.

Specifically, motor vehicle accidents on surface streets like Jurupa Avenue, Wells Avenue, and Pierce Street, and more frequently on nearby highways like the 91, 215, and 60, resulted in 2,119 injuries and fatalities in Riverside alone in 2017.

Most of these tragedies could have been avoided; nearly 80% of all traffic collisions are caused by distracted driving. This only makes these tragedies worse.
