Later, the minivan was struck by a Nissan Altima that Santos was riding in, severely damaging the sedan.
The Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene and declared the victim dead in less than 20 minutes.
The Nissan’s driver, who has not been identified, was unharmed.

Multi-Vehicle Crash Statistics
When many vehicles collide, we can understand how deadly these scenarios are on roads and highways. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigated this issue and discovered that about two million multi-vehicle collisions occur yearly. The probability of damage or death rises exponentially when more automobiles, trucks, or other vehicles collide.
The NHTSA recorded over 36,000 traffic deaths throughout the US in 2017, with California reporting over 3,600 individuals killed in traffic accidents. Riverside recorded 2,119 injuries and deaths from car accidents. These tragedies are exacerbated because most might have been avoided; about 80% of all vehicle accidents are caused by distracted driving behavior.
Multiple-car crashes frequently happen when high-speed zones are available on highways and roads. With heavy traffic, it is difficult for many people to recognize when to avoid a potential collision or obstacles on the road. These crashes may become more frequent if the weather becomes a factor. The larger the city in which a person drives, the more likely the motorist may encounter or see one of these major hazards.
