According to the authorities, a California Highway Patrol officer and several other people suffered minor injuries after being hit by a driver on Interstate 5 early Thursday morning, August 4, 2022.
According to the CHP, the crash occurred before 1:00 a.m. on I-5 northbound near the south Bonneyview exit.
The CHP reported that the officer stopped to assist and blocked the northbound number 3 lane of the I-5 due to a vehicle idling in the road. The policeman got out of his car to help.
Then, for unknown reasons, a different driver who was not involved in the initial collision lost control and hit the patrol car and the officer, grazing him and sending him to the ground, according to police.
One of the initial collision victims was taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries. The police officer was hurt but shouldn’t have any problems.
Police reported that there was no indication that the 20-year-old driver who struck the officer was under the influence of alcohol.
Investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
