[08-06-2023] One Person Killed, Three Others Injured After Boat Sank in San Francisco BayOne person was killed, while three others were injured after a boat sank in Alameda on Sunday afternoon, August 6, 2023.

The Alameda Fire Department responded to the accident near the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal around 1:00 p.m.

There was no report of how the accident occurred, but four men were all in a small makeshift fishing boat. A man in cardiac arrest was rescued from the water by rescue swimmers. The patient was rushed to Alameda Hospital but died shortly after that.

Another three men were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being rescued from the sea.

There was no disclosure of the identities of the people involved. Investigations are ongoing.

In 2016, the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways reported that the Northern California region experienced 266 boating accidents, resulting in 150 injuries and 36 fatalities. Compared to last year, there was a 20% increase in accidents, a 35% increase in damages, and a 20% increase in deaths.

Accidents increased in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, Northern Lakes, Northern Coastal Waters, and San Francisco Bay Area. Only Northern Rivers experienced a decrease in accidents between 2015 and 2016.
