TWO-VEHICLE CRASH STATISTICS

Accidents involving vehicles can happen at any time or in any place. A car accident occurs every sixty seconds somewhere in the United States. It is impossible to avoid accidents when so many people are on the road at once.

Car accidents are the leading cause of death and serious injury in the United States. Approximately two million people are injured or killed annually in automobile accidents. According to the US Department of Transportation’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, 36,560 people were killed in car accidents last year (FARS).

California’s roads are among the most congested in the country. Traffic jams, bottlenecks, and (most importantly) car accidents are unavoidable when there are so many vehicles on the road. Vehicle accidents are one of California’s most common causes of fatal injuries.

In 2017, 3,304 people died in car accidents in California, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Poor road conditions, impaired or distracted drivers, insufficient street lighting, and even the weather can all play a role in traffic accidents.
