Semi-Truck Accident Statistics

Although there are many other names for large commercial trucks, semi-trucks are one that some people use. Other terms include a semi-trailer truck, a big rig, an 18-wheeler, and a tractor-trailer.

Some of the most severe injuries from a motor vehicle accident can come from a truck. This happens due to the vehicle’s larger size and heavier weight producing more force during a collision. That force has to go somewhere, and far too frequently, it strikes victims inside other cars and on the highway.

In the United States of America, a semi-truck accident claims one life every 15 minutes. Approximately 5,000 truck drivers are killed in trucking accidents each year in the US.

In California, a lot of big rigs transport a lot of freight. Big trucks are used by more than 78% of Californians to transport their goods. In California, truck accidents result in about 3,000 injuries and 113 fatalities each year. Each year, truck accidents in California claim the lives of 200 to 300 people.

Significant injuries from truck accidents frequently leave the victims permanently disabled. Some truck crash victims do not recover from their wounds.
