Reckless Driving Accident Statistics
Aggressive or negligent drivers put other people’s lives in unnecessary danger. It is unacceptable for reckless driving to cause harm to uninvolved parties. Drivers who behave this way should be held accountable for the damages and fatalities they cause.
Aggressive driving is a significant cause of traffic accidents, road rage, and many fatal highway accidents annually in the United States. When a driver engages in a pattern of moving traffic violations to endanger other people or property, that behavior is referred to as aggressive driving, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Although it can be challenging to quantify aggressive driving, an American Automobile Association study from 2009 found that from 2003 to 2007, it was a factor in 56% of fatal accidents. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatal Accident Reporting System, excessive speed is the most frequent factor.
Driving recklessly is considered an extreme driving crime or a serious traffic infraction in California. The terms “reckless,” “careless,” and “improper” driving are frequently used interchangeably. Whatever you want to call it, it significantly raises the possibility of fatal car accidents.
3,623 people died in traffic accidents in California in 2016, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), an increase of over 1,000 (2,720) from 2010. While 1,056 people lost their lives due to speeding, 1,059 people died due to drunk driving.
San Diego County Car Accident Lawyers
In the vast majority of car accident cases, legal negligence is used. However, to prove that the other driver was at fault in a reckless driving accident, your California reckless driving accident lawyer will work to establish intentional behavior or “negligence per se.” Intentional conduct carries a higher risk of specific outcomes because it is voluntary, like driving while intoxicated or high.
An injured pedestrian, passenger, or other road user may be able to establish negligence per se liability because reckless driving is against the California Vehicle Code, and negligence per se involves breaking the law. In either scenario, having a solid claim calls for the education and experience of a determined California reckless driving accident lawyer.
Because we have seen firsthand the damage that collisions can cause, Arash Law would love nothing more than for drivers to avoid them. Instead, we support careless drivers who have been injured or lost a loved one in receiving compensation for their losses.
