Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics

In 2012, approximately 8.5 million motorcycles were registered legally in the country. The U.S. Department of Transportation provided this number. Due to their thrill, independence, portability, and affordability, motorcycles appeal to many people.

Motorcycle accidents have risen alarmingly, according to statistics from the Insurance Information Institute. There were about 5,000 fatal motorcycle accidents in 2018 alone.

For every mile they rode, motorcyclists had a 27-fold higher risk of dying in a car accident than passengers.

Motorcycle riders frequently sustain bone fractures, road rash, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries when they are in an accident.

Why then is riding a motorcycle so dangerous? This shockingly high death rate is the result of several factors. The main issue is that not enough protection is provided. The steel frame of a car and its airbags, seatbelts, and other safety features shield its occupants from the force of an impact. On the other hand, motorcyclists typically experience the full power of an effect on their bodies.
