Fatal Motorcycle Crash Statistics

Motorcycle riders are among the most vulnerable road users in terms of safety. Motorcycle riders are 35 times more likely to die in an accident and are 16 times more likely to sustain injuries than passengers in a car.

When a car collision happens, motorcycle riders are more likely to sustain severe injuries than passengers in enclosed vehicles. It’s because safety belts or airbags do not protect motorcycle riders. They only use protective riding jackets and helmets to safeguard themselves.

Tragically, motorcycle accidents can have disastrous or even lethal results. In the US last year, there were 5,286 motorcycle deaths.

Since California has the most motorcycles registered in the country, it should not be surprising that there are hundreds of vehicle accidents yearly. Last year, there were 16,505 motorcycle accidents involving them, with 541 fatalities and 15,527 injuries.

Motorcycle riders and their passengers still face a higher risk of severe and fatal injuries while using protective equipment. But wearing a helmet and other safety equipment is safer than not doing so.
