[08-17-2023] Stanislaus County, CA – Two People Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision Near Oakdale Caused by Two Loose Horses

Two people were injured following a collision involving several cars caused by two loose horses near Oakdale on Thursday morning, August 17, 2023.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident on Valley Home Road north of Oakdale around 5:12 a.m.

A Ford pickup heading to the south struck the first horse, then a Honda van traveling to the north struck the second. Both horses died on the side of the road. A Toyota pickup and a Chevrolet were southbound when they struck the dead horses.

The first three cars were unharmed, but the Chevrolet flipped over and landed on its roof. A passenger suffered a severe left-hand laceration, and the driver had a head laceration.

The two were transported to hospitals in Modesto. There were no injuries to the other two passengers in the Chevrolet.

It appears the horses got loose on Valley Home Road from a nearby property. The owner retrieved the bodies after being notified.

The West Sacramento man drove the Ford pickup. The driver of the Honda van was identified as an Oakdale man. Both Stockton men drove the Toyota pickup and the Chevrolet sedan.

Further information about the people’s identities has yet to be released while the investigation is ongoing.
