Fatal Pedestrian Crash Statistics

Accidents involving pedestrians are some of the riskiest ones on the road. There are many reasons for this, but one of them is the vulnerability of pedestrians. One of the problems is that they have no safety net in case something goes wrong.

The state of California is one of those with the highest number of pedestrian fatalities. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, California has a fatality rate that is 25% higher than the national average. Eight hundred ninety-three people lost their lives, and 14,000 suffered injuries while walking on Californian roads in 2018.

In America, there were 5,977 pedestrian fatalities in 2017. A pedestrian accident claims the life of at least one person every 88 minutes.

The majority of these accidents are brought on by a variety of things, such as driving while distracted, speeding, driving while intoxicated, driving recklessly, driving in poor visibility, driving the wrong way, and failing to obey traffic laws.

Pedestrians should only cross roads and sidewalks at designated crosswalks to ensure their safety.
