[08-24-2022] Santa Clara County, CA- Motorcyclist Killed, Another Injured in Motorcycle Accident in San Jose

According to the San Jose Police Department, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car in San Jose on Wednesday afternoon, August 24, 2022.

According to the police, the collision occurred on Wednesday around 12:10 p.m. on Monroe Street and Moorpark Avenue, where a car and a motorcycle collided.

The motorcycle rider was taken to a nearby hospital and later died.

A juvenile passenger in the car suffered “moderate” injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The police did not specify the type of vehicle involved in the crash.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH STATISTICS

Motorcycle riders, unlike car passengers, are not protected by a metal cage or cushioned by airbags. Motorcycles are also much smaller and lighter than automobiles.

According to a recent Santa Clara County Public Health Department report, the number of visits to emergency rooms caused by motorcycle accidents has steadily increased since 2005. According to a 2019 study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), slightly more than half of the 5,114 fatal motorcycle crashes involved another moving vehicle. The vehicle collided with the motorcycle in front in three-quarters of such incidents. Only 7% of motorcycles were rear-ended.
