Boat Accident Statistics
Boat accidents can be devastating. Not only can people be seriously injured or killed, but boats can also be destroyed in accidents. Thousands of people are injured yearly, and hundreds are killed in boat accidents.
During the previous three years, all boating incidents have contributed to around 15% of all boating deaths. From 5.2 deaths per 100,000 vessels in 2019 to 6.5 deaths per 100,000 in 2020, the fatality rate increased by 25%.
Most accidents happen in the ocean or bay areas rather than rivers or lakes. It is also true that many of these catastrophes occur in small, open vessels on inland waterways during the daytime hours when the weather is clear, the water is calm, and the winds are mild.
