[08-27-2022] Alameda County, CA – One Person Killed, Another Five Injured in a Three-Vehicle Crash in Newark

One person died, and another five were injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving three cars in Newark on Saturday, August 27, 2022.

According to a news statement from the Newark Police Department, officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving three vehicles that occurred Saturday night on Cherry Street near Mowry Avenue.

According to the press release, one of the other drivers was sent to a local hospital with “serious” but non-life-threatening injuries. The other passengers and the third driver were transported to the hospital for monitoring.

The deceased’s identity will not be disclosed until his family is informed.

The public was warned to stay off Cherry Street between Mowry Avenue and Smith Street until about noon earlier in the day. The Cedar Boulevard diversion route was recommended to motorists.

According to police, speed and alcohol are contributing factors.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
