[08-30-2023] Kern County, CA – Bird Scooter Rider Critically Injured After SUV Vs. Scooter Collision in Bakersfield

A Bird scooter rider was critically injured after colliding with an SUV in Bakersfield on Wednesday evening, August 27, 2023.

The Bakersfield Police Department responded to the collision that occured at Highway 178 and Canteria Drive intersection near the Mesa Marin Sports Complex.

Initial investigations conducted by officials indicate that the scooter was entering eastbound Highway 178, coming from Cantera, and in the process, the scooter pulled up in front of an SUV, which led to the crash.

The victim sustained major injuries and was in critical condition. Officials said the rider was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital to be treated.

The driver of the SUV remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police said driving under the influence or speeding were not suspected to be the leading factors of the crash.

Investigations are still ongoing.
