[09-01-2024] Alameda County, CA – Man Charged After Fatal Dog Attack in Oakland

A 57-year-old man has been charged in connection with a fatal dog attack that occurred in Oakland on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

According to the Oakland Police Department, the incident took place just before noon in the 1600 block of 36th Avenue.

Authorities said three dogs escaped from a nearby property and attacked a man identified as Robert H.

Police reported that officers arrived to find Robert suffering from multiple dog bites. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was 52 years old at the time of his death.

Authorities identified the dog owner as Brendan B., who faces charges related to failing to control his dogs. The dogs involved were mixed breeds of Cane Corso and Neapolitan Mastiff.

Investigators stated that the dogs had escaped from Brendan’s yard and that animal control officers had previously responded to the residence.

Officials confirmed that three of the dogs involved in the attack were euthanized. The remaining dogs from the property were taken into custody by Oakland Animal Services.

Brendan was taken into custody and is being held at Santa Rita Jail.

The case remains under investigation.
