According to the Menifee Police Department, 60-year-old James W. of Menifee died in a motorcycle accident at the Menifee Intersection on Saturday, September 10, 2022.
The crash happened at around 4:00 p.m. on Berea and Normandy roads.
According to Sgt. Matthew Bloch, Whiten was riding his Yamaha westbound when a Jeep driven by a 38-year-old Corona man approached from the opposite direction.
Whiten collided with the SUV when the Jeep driver initiated a turn. The Jeep driver immediately stopped.
Paramedics from the Riverside County Fire Department arrived quickly and discovered Whiten in critical condition. He was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he died less than an hour later from his injuries.
According to Bloch, patrol officers questioned the Jeep driver and determined that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was not hurt and was treated and released at the scene. His identity was not yet revealed.
The investigation was still ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to call the police station at 951-723-1565.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
Motorcycle accidents can be very dangerous. There were nearly 5,000 motorcycle fatalities in 2015, representing 14% of all traffic deaths. This significantly increased from 2014, when motorcycle fatalities made up only 10% of traffic deaths. They can occur for several reasons, such as when a driver fails to see the motorcycle, when a driver is distracted, or when driving under the influence.
Motorcycles are much smaller than cars, making them harder for drivers to see. This means that motorcycles are more likely to be hit by cars. In addition, motorcycles are not as stable as cars, so they can easily tip over if hit.
Driver distraction is another common cause of motorcycle accidents. When drivers are distracted, they may not see the motorcycle until it is too late. This can result in a collision that can cause serious injuries to the rider.
Driving under the influence is also a common cause of motorcycle accidents. When drunk or high, drivers may not be able to control their vehicles properly.
While motorcycles make up only a small percentage of the vehicles on the road, they account for a disproportionate number of accidents and fatalities. Motorcyclists can take steps to reduce their risk of being involved in an accident by wearing protective gear, obeying traffic laws, and staying vigilant while on the road.
However, even the most cautious riders are at risk whenever they share the road with larger vehicles. It is important for all drivers to be aware of motorcycles’ dangers and to take steps to avoid causing an accident.
