Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

Fatal hit-and-run accidents are a serious issue and one that is growing in prevalence. The number of fatal hit-and-run accidents has increased by more than 30% in the last decade.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates more than 5,000 fatal hit-and-run accidents in 2017 alone. This figure is up from nearly 4,000 such accidents reported in 2008.

Hit-and-run accidents are a severe problem in the United States. In 2014, over 1,200 people were killed in hit-and-run accidents, with an additional 80,000 injured. With such a large number of fatal hit-and-run accidents occurring each year, it is essential to understand why they happen and what can be done to prevent them.

While it’s difficult to determine why this increase has occurred, several likely factors are at play. One possibility is that increasing traffic congestion has led to increased distracted driving, which can lead to more accidents when drivers do not pay attention to their surroundings or other vehicles around them.
